Hi lovelies,
I am a working VO actor in Chicago. I have been in the scene for about a year and change and have gotten a fair amount of work. I am totally obsessed with San Francisco, though, and after a great NYE vacation to visit my friends there, I am thinking of moving to the Bay Area.
I am looking for some reassurance that there are in fact voice over jobs and agencies out there. Is this the case? Chicago is extremely competitive...is SF?
Any advice or encouragement/discouragement is most welcome and appreciated!

Re: SF Voice Over Scene??
Thu, January 18, 2007 - 10:45 PMThere is indeed. It's a smaller market than Chicago, but a friendly one I think. Come on in!
There's 5 or 6 bigger agencies that work with VO and a bunch of small fry too. -

You mentioned on your page that you do cartoons...are there any Bay Area agencies that specialize in cartoons? Should I make a cartoon demo?
I am looking forward to this... -

Re: SF Voice Over Scene??
Thu, January 25, 2007 - 9:01 PMI just took a class taught by Bob Bergen (www.bobbergen.com) who is the voice of Porky Pig, among many others. The class was here in Denver, and he made no bones about having to work in LA if you want to do cartoons/animation.
His class, by the way, is amazing. The guy is a great teacher.
Having said that, a friend of mine works here in Boulder, but does a lot of work elsewhere. He's not even "upper eschelon" as he puts it, but he has agents in: Denver, Chicago, LA, and two in NY. Ask your people in Chicago if you can work for them from SF, and also if they know anyone there they can hook you up with.

I hope to take a class with him. I think you're right about having agents in multiple cities. With ISDN these days, you can work from anywhere!
Good luck to you!

Sun, January 28, 2007 - 8:38 PMI took a class with Bob Bergen in SF, and then last year on a cruise ship. That was awesome. He's supposed to do that again, I highly recommend it.
