Voice work and work hours

I work a "regular job" (9-5 type), but want to get into working in the voice over field. Naturally I don't expect much work at first, so my biggest concern is balancing a real job with getting VO gigs. How does anyone else cope/balance the two? What should I expect. Technically, I'm a temp at the moment, but they do expect me 5 days a week...

Unless you are incredibly lucky, beginning VO will not interfere with your 'day job'. But you should be flexible, as you could be called for auditions with less than 24 hour notice. So you may need to be creative in scheduling, and cough occasionally at the day job (to make that 'I'm sick today' excuse seem plausible :-) Most recording is late morning/early afternoon, so maybe on your lunch break.
