Help A New Talent Out...Would Ya?

Hello There! (Great Bullwinkle, wouldn't you say?) I've been doing voices (mostly cartoon style as well as accents, etc.) for years never really paying attention to what I was doing (I was attacked by Shaggy at Universal Studios for doing a better him). Now that I've been really concentrating on it, I decided to move from Ft. Lauderdale, FL and head where the big boys play... IDAHO. But seriously, I am looking for representation and I'd like to know how and where to look. How do I make a demo, how do I find an agent, how do I audition, etc.? I do live in South East Idaho so I need all the help I can get...on many different levels. Thanks.

At this point, you need to be in LA or at least in NYC. However, the industry will probably be shifting over the next five-ish years to where more of the work can be piped in. I would recommend getting some training in LA, including on the marketing aspect. Check out bobbergen.com; he is awesome and if you can get an opportunity to work with him, do so. You will learn so much about the skill AND about the business.

Most VO coaches will coach by phone these days, so remote VO training isn't out of the question. I know Nancy Wolfson and Bob Bergen both do. The only coach I know of "near" Idaho is Deb Munro in Vancouver, BC.

There are a couple of good ways to get plugged into the community online. One is vo-bb.com, which is rather informal, but a quite a few "heavies" hang out there. Another great way to connect would be to go to VOICE 2008 in August.
