Maybe no one wants to help the competition? Maybe no one here is really in the business.

From my perspective? shop your reel around to local casting agents. Keep your eye open for those who seem to be proactive - like posting demos of their talent on a website etc...

Talk to production houses and radio stations about working with them (most affiliated TV stations use one voice guy or their regular talent, so it's nigh impossible to work there)

      Hows that for starters?

I just took a class from Bob Bergen, the voice of tweety and porky pig and many many others. He let us know that there are few places to go to get into animation. Basically if you want to do animation L.A. is the place you need to go to.

Of course there are other independant shops across the country you could look into, but if this is what you want to do, moving to L.A. is the key.

If you ever get a chance, see if you can take a class from Bob, he was excellent! Check out his web site for more information; www.bobbergen.com.

I have heard that Pat Fraley is also an excellent teacher as well.

          Well worth the investment.

            Nice sales pitch.

I've found a few up and comers outside of LA. The cutting edge animation world is most certainly not necessarily in LA. I've worked with a few in New Jersey and Central PA. It's bottom floor stuff, but a great chance to work with some fun people and maybe ride the coattails of some hot new products.

thanks again, this stuff is very helpful, it kinda seems the way voice over work is headed it's not going to matter where you live because everyone has home studios and you can just do your work there and send it on in. but i am sure you have to get in the door and become slightly eastablished befor you get that luxury.

Used to be you needed dual ISDN lines at a home studio. I'm told that doing stuff via MP3 and WAV is become more and more acceptable (for auditions), but not quite yet the norm. If you can self-direct, that helps a lot. SF and Vancouver are big on video games, as markets go. You can also make your own web site and publish your demos there. And you can subscribe to voice banks for a fee. I'm on voiceoneonline.com and got a few jobs from that.
